Course Overview
This approximately 25 km drive runs from Gachangdam reservoir in Daegu's Dalseong-gu to Biseulsan Natural Recreation Forest. The dam offers lakeside forest scenery as an urban escape.
Biseulsan (1,084 m) is famous for its spring azalea colonies that turn the summit pink in April-May. The Heoltijae pass crossing features winding roads that are especially popular during autumn foliage season.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Gachangdam (approx. 8 km)
Drive along the dam perimeter enjoying the harmony of lake and forest.
Section 2: Heoltijae Winding Pass (approx. 7 km)
A curvy mountain pass from Gachang toward Biseulsan, fun for driving enthusiasts.
Section 3: Biseulsan Natural Recreation Forest (approx. 10 km)
Connect to trekking toward the summit. Spring azalea season is the highlight.
Driving Tips
- Biseulsan Azalea Festival runs late April to early May
- Gachangdam area is a water source protection zone; no camping or cooking allowed
- Watch for icy roads at Heoltijae pass in winter
- Can be combined with Apsan Observatory for an evening city lights drive
