Course Overview
Sancheong is the gateway to southern Jirisan. This route connecting Daewonsa Temple and Jungsanri offers a mountain drive with Jirisan's magnificent scenery. Daewonsa Valley is especially beautiful with spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage, with memorable sections running alongside valley streams.
Jungsanri is the starting point for the shortest trail to Jirisan's Cheonwangbong peak (1,915 m), a mecca for mountaineers. Sancheong is famous for traditional Korean medicine, with the Sancheong Herbal Medicine Festival and Donguibogam Village worth visiting.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Sancheong Town to Daewonsa (approx. 12 km)
Drive from Sancheong toward Daewonsa along a deepening valley. Cherry blossoms and autumn colors on the approach road are beautiful.
Section 2: Daewonsa to Jungsanri (approx. 16 km)
Cross Jirisan's southern foothills from Daewonsa to Jungsanri. High mountains and deep valleys alternate, with spectacular five-color foliage in autumn.
Driving Tips
- Daewonsa approach road is best during cherry blossom (April) and foliage (Oct-Nov) season
- Jungsanri to Cheonwangbong is an approximately 8-hour round-trip hike
