Course Overview
The Sanyang Coastal Road circles Mireukdo Island in Tongyeong over approximately 23 km, known as the "Dream 80-ri." It offers continuous views of the Hallyeosudo archipelago with its scattered islands, making it the finest coastal drive on the south coast.
Dala Park is Tongyeong's premier sunset spot, where the sun sinking behind silhouetted islands creates a magnificent spectacle. The entire road is two lanes but sees light traffic, allowing a leisurely drive with ocean viewpoints throughout.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Tongyeong Bridge to Dala Park (approx. 10 km)
Cross Tongyeong Bridge onto Mireukdo, then follow the coastal road toward Sanyang-eup to Dala Park. Pass Napoli Farm and Skyline Luge along the way as Hallyeosudo islands appear one by one.
Section 2: Dala Park to Bonghwasan Viewpoint (approx. 8 km)
After watching the sunset at Dala Park, continue along the southern coast. On clear days, Japan's Tsushima Island is visible. Small fishing villages and beaches alternate for a charming scenery.
Section 3: Bonghwasan to Tongyeong Bridge Return (approx. 5 km)
Return to Tongyeong city along Mireukdo's eastern coast, passing the Hansandaecheop Memorial Park and Yi Sun-sin Park.
Driving Tips
- Time your departure so you arrive at Dala Park for sunset
- Mireuksan Cable Car (14,000 KRW for adults) offers panoramic Hallyeosudo views
- Try honey bread and Chungmu gimbap at Tongyeong Central Market
- Weekend traffic near Tongyeong Bridge can be heavy, so leave early
