Course Overview
This 32 km drive starts from Naju Eupseong Fortress, following the Yeongsan River through pear orchard zones and Bannam Ancient Tombs to Yeongsanpo Port. Naju is famous for its pears, and spring brings a snow-like landscape of white pear blossoms.
Bannam Ancient Tombs date from the Mahan period, offering insights into ancient southern Korean history. Yeongsanpo was a central river port during the Joseon Dynasty, now known for its fermented skate restaurant district.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Eupseong to Pear Orchards (approx. 10 km)
Visit Geumseonggwan Hall (National Treasure) in the fortress, then continue to pear orchards. Most beautiful during April's full bloom.
Section 2: Orchards to Bannam Tombs (approx. 12 km)
Following the Yeongsan River's south bank eastward. Bannam tombs are large burial mounds of Mahan-era chieftains.
Section 3: Bannam to Yeongsanpo (approx. 10 km)
End at Yeongsanpo with a riverside walk and hongeo samhap (fermented skate combo). The Yeongsanpo lighthouse and traditional sailboat experiences are available.
Driving Tips
- Naju pear season: September-November; pear blossom season: mid-April
- Naju gomtang (beef bone soup) has a 600-year tradition
- Try hongeo samhap at Yeongsanpo's fermented skate restaurant street
- Bannam Ancient Tombs: free admission and parking
