Course Overview
The Muju Seolcheon Winter Drive runs through Seolcheon-myeon, the snowiest area in Jeollabuk-do. Take the gondola from Deogyusan Resort to Hyangjeokbong peak for rime ice scenery above the sea of clouds.
Seolcheon-myeon literally means "Snow Village," commonly receiving over 30cm of snowfall in winter. Gucheon-dong Valley transforms into an entirely different world of frozen waterfalls and snowscapes.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Muju Town to Seolcheon-myeon (approx. 12 km)
Follow Route 19 through tranquil snow-covered mountain villages.
Section 2: Seolcheon-myeon to Deogyusan Resort (approx. 10 km)
Climb to the resort through an Alpine-like atmosphere of ski slopes and snowscapes.
Section 3: Resort to Jeoksangsan Viewpoint (approx. 13 km)
Detour to Jeoksangsan for the stunning combination of Jeoksang Lake and snow scenery.
Driving Tips
- Deogyusan gondola: winter season 09:00-16:30
- Muju Resort ski season: December to early March
- Jeoksangsan road can be icy; 4WD/chains recommended
