Course Overview
The Gyeongju Royal Tomb Belt Drive connects the royal tombs scattered across the ancient Silla capital. Downtown Gyeongju features burial mounds of Silla kings and nobles including Daereungwon (Cheonmachong), Oreung, and King Muyeol's Tomb.
From Daereungwon through Banwolseong, Cheomseongdae, and Donggung & Wolji (Anapji) to King Muyeol's Tomb, this course offers the unique experience of encountering a thousand-year-old kingdom's traces within a modern city.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Daereungwon to Cheomseongdae (approx. 5 km)
Walk among grass-covered burial mounds, an experience unique to Gyeongju.
Section 2: Cheomseongdae to Donggung & Wolji (approx. 5 km)
Past Banwolseong fortress to the beautifully lit pond palace.
Section 3: Donggung & Wolji to King Muyeol's Tomb (approx. 8 km)
Through downtown to the tombs of unification heroes Kim Yu-sin and King Muyeol.
Section 4: King Muyeol's Tomb to Oreung (approx. 12 km)
Drive to Oreung, linked to the birth legend of Silla's founder Park Hyeokgeose.
Driving Tips
- Daereungwon admission: adult KRW 3,000; Donggung & Wolji: KRW 3,000
- Donggung & Wolji night opening: 7-10 PM (night view recommended)
- Must-try: Gyeongju 10-won bread, Hwangnam bread, barley bread
- Weekend traffic in Gyeongju; consider combining with bicycle tour
