Course Overview
This 30 km valley drive connects Hwayangugok and Seonyugugok, the "Nine Bends" beloved by Joseon-era scholar Uam Song Si-yeol. Each bend reveals unique rock formations and pristine water features.
Hwayangugok features nine named scenic spots including Gyeongcheonbyeok cliff, Unyeongdam pool, and Geumsadam basin. Seonyugugok, where legends say immortals once played, is famous for summer swimming and autumn foliage.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Cheongcheon-myeon to Hwayangugok (approx. 10 km)
Enter Hwayangdong Valley and visit all nine bends from Gyeongcheonbyeok to Pagot in order.
Section 2: Hwayangugok to Seonyugugok (approx. 12 km)
Mountain roads connect the two nine-bend valleys through scenic forest.
Section 3: Seonyugugok Exploration (approx. 8 km)
Follow the nine bends of Seonyugugok with crystal-clear water flowing between dramatic rock cliffs.
Driving Tips
- Hwayangugok parking is free; walking the nine bends takes about 1 hour
- Swimming possible at Seonyugugok in summer (bring safety gear)
- Peak autumn foliage from mid-October to early November
- Goesan's famous peppers and jujubes make great souvenirs
