Course Overview

Gangwon Nature Road Course 3, the 'High Pass Drive,' covers 110 km from North Yangyang IC to Pyeongchang IC. Following zigzagging mountain passes that feel touched by primeval nature, you'll encounter the majestic Baekdudaegan landscape and pristine forests.

Starting from Yangyang, the route crosses Guryongnyeong Pass (1,013m), passes through Bangtaesan Recreation Forest and Hongcheon Saldun Valley, and continues to Pyeongchang, offering the most immersive mountain pass driving in Gangwon.

Section Highlights

Section 1: North Yangyang IC to Guryongnyeong (approx. 35 km)

Head inland from Yangyang as the serious climb begins. At Guryongnyeong summit, the East Sea stretches to the east while inland mountain ranges unfold to the west.

Section 2: Guryongnyeong to Bangtaesan Recreation Forest (approx. 35 km)

Descend from Guryongnyeong toward Inje through dense primeval forest. Bangtaesan Recreation Forest offers forest bathing and trekking.

Section 3: Bangtaesan to Pyeongchang IC (approx. 40 km)

Follow the clear waters of Hongcheon Saldun Valley toward Pyeongchang. A comfortable final section with gentle descents and wide valleys.

Driving Tips

  • Guryongnyeong is at 1,013m; watch for ice and snow in winter
  • Watch for wildlife (deer, wild boar), especially at night
