Course Overview

Seoraksan is Korea's most iconic mountain, with Outer Seorak's majestic rock peaks being particularly impressive. This approximately 20 km course from Sokcho city center to Seoraksan National Park's Sogongwon offers views of the magnificent Ulsanbawi Rock.

From Sogongwon, take the cable car to Gwongeumseong Fortress for panoramic Outer Seorak views, or visit Sinheungsa Temple and the Rocking Rock. During autumn foliage season, the access road itself becomes a spectacular foliage drive.

Section Highlights

Section 1: Sokcho City to Seorak-dong (approx. 12 km)

Head from Sokcho toward Seoraksan. The mountain scenery becomes increasingly dramatic.

Section 2: Seorak-dong to Sogongwon (approx. 8 km)

The Seoraksan National Park access road. Fall brings spectacular foliage on both mountain slopes. Sogongwon parking lot is the endpoint.

Driving Tips

  • Seoraksan Cable Car: 10,000 KRW round trip (check operating hours)
  • Severe congestion on autumn weekends (depart before dawn recommended)
  • Sinheungsa to Rocking Rock: about 30-minute walk
  • Ulsanbawi climb: approximately 3-4 hours round trip (fitness required)
