Course Overview
Taebaek City is a highland city at 600-700m elevation, traversed by the Baekdudaegan mountain ridge. This approximately 30 km highland drive connects Geomryongso (source of the Han River), Taebaeksan National Park, and Hwangji Pond.
Geomryongso, at 800m elevation, is the mysterious starting point of the Han River, where 2,000 tons of 9-degree water gush forth daily. Hwangji Pond is the source of the Nakdong River, making Taebaek uniquely the birthplace of Korea's two greatest rivers.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Geomryongso to Taebaeksan National Park (approx. 12 km)
A 25-minute walk from the parking lot to Geomryongso, then drive to Taebaeksan National Park entrance.
Section 2: Taebaeksan to Taebaek City (approx. 10 km)
Pass Taebaeksan's Danggol Plaza and descend into the city. The Taebaek Coal Museum chronicles the mining city's history.
Section 3: Taebaek City to Hwangji Pond (approx. 8 km)
End at Hwangji Pond in the city center. Enjoy the walking trail around the pond and food at Taebaek Market.

- Geomryongso has free admission and parking
- Bring long sleeves even in summer (average 20 degrees Celsius)
- Combine with Taebaeksan Snow Flower Festival (January-February) in winter
- Yeontan bulgogi and hanwoo rice soup at Taebaek Market are must-tries
