Course Overview

Chiaksan in Wonju is an inland mountain of Gangwon, particularly stunning for its autumn foliage. This approximately 28 km course from Wonju city center to Guryongsa Temple in Chiaksan National Park features a foliage tunnel and temple scenery.

Guryongsa was founded by Master Uisang during the Silla Dynasty's King Munmu era, steeped in the legend of nine dragons. The foliage tunnel along the Guryongsa access road peaks from mid-October to early November.

Section Highlights

Section 1: Wonju City to Socho-myeon (approx. 10 km)

Exit Wonju heading toward Chiaksan. Stop at the Wonju Hanji Theme Park for traditional Korean paper experiences.

Section 2: Socho-myeon to Guryongsa Entrance (approx. 10 km)

Climb along country roads at the foot of Chiaksan. The increasingly dramatic mountains and dense forests are impressive.

Section 3: Guryongsa Entrance to Guryongsa (approx. 8 km)

The foliage tunnel along the Guryongsa access road is the highlight. Hiking toward Birobong Peak from Guryongsa is also possible.
