Course Overview

This approximately 40 km drive follows National Route 36 through the 11 km Buryeong Valley, often called Korea's Grand Canyon, before finishing at Deokgu Hot Springs, the country's only naturally flowing outdoor hot spring. The valley features majestic cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

The route passes through Geumgang pine forests offering natural forest bathing. Uljin snow crab and pine mushroom are gourmet highlights.

Section Highlights

Section 1: Uljin Town to Buryeong Valley Entrance (approx. 15 km)

Head west on Route 36 from Uljin as the road gradually enters the mountains.

Section 2: Buryeong Valley (approx. 11 km)

Winding roads along the valley with dramatic cliff faces and emerald waters appearing alternately outside the window.

Section 3: Buryeong Valley to Deokgu Hot Springs (approx. 14 km)

Mountain roads lead to the hot springs for a relaxing finish.

Driving Tips

  • Some narrow sections in the valley require caution with oncoming traffic
  • Deokgu Hot Springs has natural spring water; no reservation needed
  • Uljin snow crab is in season November through March
  • Geumgang Pine Forest trekking requires advance reservation (80 people per day limit)
