Course Overview
This is Jeju City's signature coastal drive, heading east along the shoreline from downtown. Starting at Samyang Black Sand Beach with its distinctive dark sand, continue to Hamdeok Seowubong Beach, widely regarded as Jeju's most beautiful beach, and on to the Jocheon coast.
With good road conditions and plenty of cafes and restaurants, this is an easy course to enjoy casually. The emerald waters of Hamdeok Beach represent the essence of Jeju's coastal beauty.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Jeju City to Samyang Beach (approx. 6km)
Depart from Tapdong in Jeju City and head east. Samyang Black Sand Beach is famous for its iron-rich black sand, and in summer you can try a traditional sand bath.
Section 2: Samyang to Hamdeok Beach (approx. 8km)
Following the coastal road east, you arrive at Hamdeok Seowubong Beach. The emerald transparent waters, white sand, and the Seowubong volcanic cone behind create a breathtaking scene. Cafes and restaurants cluster around the beach.
Section 3: Hamdeok to Jocheon Coast (approx. 7km)
The coastal road from Hamdeok to Jocheon features historic sites like Jocheon Mansedongsan and Yeonbukjeong alongside peaceful seaside scenery.
Driving Tips
- Hamdeok Beach: Jeju's top beach; especially popular in summer with limited parking
- Cafe street: Multiple ocean-view cafes surround Hamdeok Beach
- Samyang sand bath: Free sand bath experience available in July-August
- Jocheon Yeonbukjeong: A Goryeo-era fortress wall and pavilion; free admission
