Course Overview
Route 1100 (Provincial Road 1139) is a 36.6 km mountain road connecting Jeju City and Seogwipo through the mid-slopes of Hallasan. It passes through the highest point of any national highway in Korea at 1,100 meters above sea level, offering the most dramatic seasonal driving experience on the island.
Spring brings azaleas along the roadside, summer creates lush green tunnels, autumn displays silvergrass and foliage, and winter transforms the route into a snow-covered wonderland. The wetland at the summit is a Ramsar-registered site with a short walking trail.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Gwangnyeong to Eorimok Entrance (approx. 12 km)
Dense forests begin immediately after leaving the city. Temperatures drop noticeably with altitude gain. Hikers heading to Hallasan's summit can be seen at the Eorimok trailhead.
Section 2: Eorimok to 1100 Highland Wetland (approx. 10 km)
The highland winding section with consecutive sharp curves. Stop at the 1100 Highland rest area for coffee and a stroll along the wetland boardwalk.
Section 3: 1100 Highland to Jungmun (approx. 15 km)
A descending drive toward Seogwipo after crossing the summit. Fog is common in this section. On clear days, views extend to Seogwipo's coast and Beomseom Island.
