Course Overview
The Muju Gucheondong to Deogyusan Drive follows the Gucheondong Valley approximately 32 km into the heart of Deogyusan National Park. The route showcases the famous 33 scenic spots along the valley, with lush forests and crystal-clear water greeting drivers year-round.
Summer brings refreshing streams, autumn paints the ridges in crimson, and winter transforms the landscape into a snow wonderland with ski slopes at Deogyusan Resort. A gondola ride to the summit of Hyangjeokbong (1,614 m) is available.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Seolcheon to Najetongmun (approx. 8 km)
Najetongmun is a natural stone gate that once marked the border between Baekje and Silla kingdoms. Vehicles can drive through the 3m-high, 3m-wide rock tunnel.
Section 2: Najetongmun to Baengnyeonsa (approx. 14 km)
The heart of Gucheondong Valley with scenic spots like Sushimdae, Inwoldam, and Bipadam. Frequent pull-off points allow you to dip your feet in the valley streams.
Section 3: Baengnyeonsa to Deogyusan Resort (approx. 10 km)
The altitude gradually increases beyond Baengnyeonsa Temple. At the resort, take the gondola to Seolcheonbong near the summit of Hyangjeokbong.
Driving Tips
- The two-lane valley road has many curves; drive slowly
- Arrive early in summer to secure valley parking
- Snow chains required in winter; watch for ice near the resort
- Najetongmun tunnel has a 3m height limit
