Course Overview
This approximately 45 km winding drive cuts through the mountainous eastern part of Jeonbuk between Muju and Jangsu, ascending and descending passes at 500-800 m elevation. The continuous curves and elevation changes make it popular among driving enthusiasts.
Summer brings cool highland breezes, and autumn paints the mountains in vivid foliage.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Muju to East Deogyusan (approx. 15 km)
Mountain road begins with continuous curves and climbs along the eastern foothills of Deogyusan.
Section 2: Mountain Pass Core (approx. 15 km)
The heart of the winding route, crossing passes above 700 m with deep valleys and ridges on both sides.
Section 3: Highland to Jangsu (approx. 15 km)
Descend to the open Jangsu highlands and finish with premium Jangsu hanwoo beef.
Driving Tips
- Avoid night driving; many sections have no street lights
- Slow down in rain as roads can be slippery
- Not recommended in winter due to high icing risk
- No gas stations along the way; fill up before departing
