Course Overview
The Inje Naerincheon Winter Drive explores deep inland Gangwon winter. Starting from the Inje Ice Fishing Festival, it follows Naerincheon upstream to Wondaeri Birch Forest. After ice fishing and raw smelt at the festival, drive through pristine forests blanketed in snow.
Wondaeri Birch Forest, dubbed "Finland of Korea," creates a pure white world where white birch trunks and snow have become an Instagram sensation.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Inje-eup to Festival Ground (approx. 10 km)
Head toward Soyang Lake for ice fishing on the frozen lake.
Section 2: Festival to Naerincheon (approx. 15 km)
Drive upstream through frozen valleys and snowscapes.
Section 3: Naerincheon to Wondaeri Birch Forest (approx. 15 km)
To the birch grove where sunlight filtering through white trunks creates a dreamlike scene.
Driving Tips
- Inje Ice Fishing Festival: late January to early February (Soyang Lake, Inje section)
- Wondaeri Birch Forest: free entry and parking, 40-minute walk one way
- Many icy road sections; drive slowly
- Try grilled hwangtae at Inje Hwangtae Village
