Course Overview
Gurye Sansuyu Village in Sandong-myeon is Korea's largest cornelian cherry destination, with around 30,000 trees at the foot of Jirisan Mountain. From mid-March to early April, brilliant yellow blossoms blanket the entire village, creating a dramatic contrast with lingering snow on Jirisan's peaks.
This 24 km drive departs from Gurye town, loops through the sansuyu villages of Sandong-myeon, and ends at Jirisan Hot Spring.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Gurye Town to Sandong-myeon Entrance (approx. 8 km)
Crossing the Seomjingang into farmland with Jirisan drawing closer and scattered cornelian cherry trees beginning to appear.
Section 2: Sandong-myeon Village Loop (approx. 10 km)
Sangwi Village at 480 m elevation offers panoramic views over the yellow canopy. Pass through Bangok and Daeum villages with stone walls and thatched roofs amid seas of yellow flowers.
Section 3: Sansuyu Village to Jirisan Hot Spring (approx. 6 km)
Exiting the villages toward Jirisan Hot Spring for a relaxing soak after the drive.
Driving Tips
- Peak bloom is mid-March to early April
- Vehicles may be restricted in Sangwi Village during the festival; shuttle buses operate
- Try local specialties like sansuyu confections and sansuyu wine
- End with an outdoor bath at Jirisan Hot Spring
