Course Overview
The Muju Deogyusan Camping Drive follows the scenic Gucheon-dong 33 Views into Deogyusan National Park. Starting from Seolcheon-myeon in Muju, the route climbs along Gucheon-dong Valley to reach Deogyudae Campground, Korea's largest national park campground.
Located at 700m elevation, the campground stays cool even in midsummer with streams running throughout. Take the gondola up to Hyangjeokbong Peak for a mountain panorama above the sea of clouds.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Seolcheon-myeon to Muju Resort (approx. 12 km)
From Muju IC through Seolcheon-myeon toward the resort, with Gucheon-dong Valley flowing beside the road.
Section 2: Muju Resort to Deogyudae Campground (approx. 8 km)
Past the resort into Samgong-ri, the road narrows through pristine forest.
Section 3: Campground to Baengnyeonsa Temple (approx. 8 km)
A round-trip drive to the tranquil mountain temple along the valley.
Driving Tips
- Deogyudae Campground requires advance booking through the national park system
- Bring long sleeves for cool nights even in summer at this altitude
- Gondola: 15 min one-way, adult round-trip KRW 15,000 (2025)
- Gucheon-dong Valley entry is free; parking fee applies separately
