Course Overview
The Yeongwol Donggang Rafting & Camping Drive follows one of Korea's cleanest rivers. Starting from Yeongwol-eup, the route passes Eorayeon Viewpoint before reaching the Donggang rafting base camp.
Donggang is Korea's rafting mecca, drawing enthusiasts nationwide in summer. The highlight is barbecuing at a riverside campsite after rafting while stargazing. Yeongwol's Byeolmaro Observatory enables nighttime astronomical observation.
Section Highlights
Section 1: Yeongwol-eup to Eorayeon Viewpoint (approx. 15 km)
Head upstream along the Donggang to Eorayeon, one of the river's three great scenic spots with entrenched meander terrain.
Section 2: Eorayeon to Donggang Camping Base (approx. 10 km)
Follow the riverside road to Geoun-ri rafting departure point, passing auto campgrounds along the way.
Section 3: Camping Base to Byeolmaro Observatory (approx. 10 km)
An evening drive up Bongnaesan to the observatory at 800m elevation for stunning night skies.
Driving Tips
- Peak rafting season is July-August; advance booking recommended
- Many riverside campgrounds have unpaved access roads; SUV recommended
- Byeolmaro Observatory night sessions bookable online (9-11 PM)
