Course Overview

Palgongsan (1,193 m) is Daegu's guardian mountain, and its 35 km loop road is the city's most beloved driving route. Along the way, visit Donghwasa Temple, Gatbawi Buddha, and Pagyesa Temple with stunning views.

Beautiful in all four seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, valleys and greenery in summer, foliage in autumn, and snow scenes in winter.

Section Highlights

Section 1: Donghwasa to Palgongsan Cable Car (approx. 10 km)

Dense forest road from Donghwasa entrance forming a tree tunnel in spring and autumn.

Section 2: Cable Car to Gatbawi (approx. 12 km)

The core winding section along the ridge with continuous curves. Gatbawi (stone Buddha wearing a hat) is a famous wish-granting spot.

Section 3: Gatbawi to Pagyesa (approx. 13 km)

Descending to Pagyesa Temple to complete the loop. Pagyesa was founded during the Silla Dynasty.

Driving Tips

  • Weekends are congested with hikers' vehicles; weekdays recommended
  • Allow 40 minutes on foot from Gatbawi parking to the summit
  • Pair with Daegu's makchang (grilled intestines) and Dongin-dong jjimgalbi
  • Peak autumn foliage is late October to early November
